Ray Emery Signed Goalie Mask Van Velden Philadelphia Flyers Artwork Painted on a Worn Van Velden Shell
STORY:
A very rare Ray Emery autograph on a goalie mask. Custom Van Velden shell. Made in the late 90s. Painted to the Philadelphia Flyers colors. Worn by the owner. Subsequently, the mask was autographed by now deceased Flyers goalie Ray Emery in a charity ball hockey tournament in 2015. This mask was NOT worn by Ray Emery. Nonetheless, a Ray Emery autograph on a full size mask is extremely rare to acquire. Ray Emery passed away in a tragic boating accident in Hamilton, Ontario in 2018.
Van Velden (VV) shells alone are collectibles. Van Velden Masks company was around in the early-mid 90s. Mostly made CSA approved masks for the hockey market. VV made several masks that were worn in the pros. Rick Wamsley was a part owner and wearer near the end of the company. The company was also the first one to make catchers masks for MLB, with Charlie O’ Brien of the Blue Jay's the 1st player.
