Dan Vladar’s Philadelphia Bell Tribute: The artwork behind Darth Vladar
DAN VLADAR brings a little dark side to the crease. His 2027 Philadelphia Bell Tribute brings the city's history to your collection.
Now available for presale at Goalie Mask Collector, this unsigned Dan Vladar goalie mask tribute combines Philadelphia's unmistakable orange, black and white colors with detailed artwork inspired by the city's historic character. From the oversized number 80 to the sweeping PHILADELPHIA lettering, this is a display piece with plenty to say before you even get close.
A Philadelphia story painted across the shell
The artwork balances bold hockey colors with a grayscale city tribute. Architectural towers, clock faces and a historical portrait create depth along the side of the mask, while bell imagery across the upper shell reinforces the Philadelphia Bell theme. Flowing script and layered shading give the white background the feel of an illustrated historical document.
The large PHILADELPHIA lettering runs diagonally across the side, tying the composition together. Black letters with crisp white outlines stand out against the detailed scenery, making the city's name a central part of the design.
Orange accents frame the artwork and lead the eye toward the chin, where VLADAR's number 80 takes center stage. Its contrasting outlines and textured appearance give it a strong visual presence. The silver cage adds a clean metallic finish against the darker details behind it.
From across a room, you see Philadelphia colors and that unmistakable number. Up close, the smaller architectural details reward a second look. That combination is exactly what makes goalie mask artwork so enjoyable to collect.
How Dan Vladar became “Darth Vladar”
The nickname comes from a simple connection: Vladar sounds similar to Vader, the surname of Star Wars villain Darth Vader. Put the two together and you get one of hockey's most memorable goalie nicknames.
It also predates his Philadelphia chapter. The Hockey Writers used “Darth Vladar” in its 2015 draft prospect profile, and later explained the Star Wars wordplay during his move to Calgary. The nickname was already part of his hockey identity long before this Philadelphia tribute.
A masked goalie, a commanding presence in the crease and a name that practically writes the joke itself. Some nicknames need explaining. This one needed a soundtrack.
